Win a $4000 Scholarship!

The Language Perfect World Championships 2014 is taking place between 19 - 29 May. This is a large global event involving more than 300,000 students from 1000 schools. NZIIU is proud to sponsor for the third year running, a $4000 exchange scholarship for kiwi students who do well in this event. You can visit www.languageperfect.com/worldchamps/NZIIU.html for more information on the scholarship. You can also download our competition poster. (Posted 15/03/2014)

Japan Fees very low due to strong NZ$

The NZ dollar is once again very strong against the Yen. A few years ago it sank to below 50 Yen to the dollar but is now around 85 Yen. Since the fee we pay in Japan is almost unchanged, the price of our exchanges is the lowest it has been in about six years.

For details, please consult the information sheet on the Downloads page. You’ll also see that we have added a new three month exchange to our standard offerings of one and two semesters. (Posted 5/02/2014)

Scholarship Winners Announced

NZIIU offered at least one exchange scholarship through the Language Perfect Championships in 2013. Students had to be at least Gold Award winners and had to submit full applications and be interviewed. We were very pleased to have two excellent candidates and awarded them $4000 each.

They are Meileen Huang from Baradene College in Auckland and Zhane Whelan from Tauhara College in Taupo. Meileen wil spend three months in France next year extending her study of French Language and culture. Zhane will explore one side of his ancestry in Ireland beginning in January 2014.

Meileen and Zhane are fine students and we expect that they will do well on exchange. Congratulations to both of you!

NZIIU is pleased to support language learning among NZ students and very happy to be associated with the energetic, intelligent work of Language Perfect.

2013 Language Perfect Scholarship Draw

We are pleased to be offering another scholarship round to help support language learning. At least one scholarship of $4000 will be offered to one of the students listed below.

This random list of ten names has been drawn from Gold Award winners in this year's Championships. All of the language teachers of these students have been contacted by e-mail and most have responded and been sent details of what students need to do next. If you are on the following list, you should be talking to your language teacher about your options. If you are unable to do this for any reason, send an e-mail to ian@nziiu.co.nz for help.

Congratulations to the following students for a fine effort.

Language Perfect Scholarships for 2012

We are delighted to announce that we will be offering another scholarship to the value of $4000 in the Language Perfect World Championships in 2012. This will be third year of NZIIU involvement. The scholarship will be given to one Gold Award winner from a list of ten drawn at random. It can be applied to any country and any length of programme from those we offer. It will be subject to our usual criteria for exchange students.

In 2011 we were especially pleased to make two scholarships available instead of the promised single award. In addition we were very happy to be able fund two two other applicants from our regular needs-based awards. The winners will be spending time in France, Japan or Spain.

A variety of schools appeared in the 2011 draw and represented a broad cross-section of the country's language students. Winners were from Hamilton Girls High School, Waimea College in Nelson and James Hargest College in Invercargill.

Scholarships to Germany

We expect to be offering our regular German scholarships at the beginning of the 2012 school year. Watch these pages for details.

Language Perfect Scholarships

Congratulations to everyone who took part in the Language Perfect Championships! Ten names have been drawn from the list of Gold Award winners and your teachers have been informed. You are all eligible for a $4000 exchange scholarship from NZIIU. Your teachers have details. If you wish to apply, you'll need to move quickly. Last year we found some extra money and a total of four awards were eventually made.

It’s time to get serious about your application

Now is a great time to take the first step on your exchange journey. Most applications for exchanges starting in December of 2011 and January of 2012 have to be complete by the end of August. It can take a while to get through the process so if you haven’t already submitted your initial application, it would be a good idea to do it now.

There are no quotas except for the USA and our scholarship programme can offer support to those needing a little financial help. If you’re not sure about anything, check the Information for Students sheet for each country, consult the Rough Guide or e-mail ian@nziiu. co.nz.
