Language Perfect Scholarships for 2012

We are delighted to announce that we will be offering another scholarship to the value of $4000 in the Language Perfect World Championships in 2012. This will be third year of NZIIU involvement. The scholarship will be given to one Gold Award winner from a list of ten drawn at random. It can be applied to any country and any length of programme from those we offer. It will be subject to our usual criteria for exchange students.

In 2011 we were especially pleased to make two scholarships available instead of the promised single award. In addition we were very happy to be able fund two two other applicants from our regular needs-based awards. The winners will be spending time in France, Japan or Spain.

A variety of schools appeared in the 2011 draw and represented a broad cross-section of the country's language students. Winners were from Hamilton Girls High School, Waimea College in Nelson and James Hargest College in Invercargill.

Scholarships to Germany

We expect to be offering our regular German scholarships at the beginning of the 2012 school year. Watch these pages for details.

Photos on Facebook

We have libraries of photos on our Facebook pages NZIIU Student Exchange that have been taken by past exchange students. They come from a range of countries in Europe and from Japan and show orientation sessions, host families, food, touristy shots and a host of activities.

It’s time to get serious about your application

Now is a great time to take the first step on your exchange journey. Most applications for exchanges starting in December of 2011 and January of 2012 have to be complete by the end of August. It can take a while to get through the process so if you haven’t already submitted your initial application, it would be a good idea to do it now.

There are no quotas except for the USA and our scholarship programme can offer support to those needing a little financial help. If you’re not sure about anything, check the Information for Students sheet for each country, consult the Rough Guide or e-mail ian@nziiu. co.nz.

Language Olympics Scholarship Winner

NZIIU offered a $4000 scholarship to a student in the Gold category of Language Perfect’s 2010 Language Olympics. It has taken some time to work through our usual application procedures but we are pleased to announce that Julia Carrington of Timaru is this year’s winner. Julia is in Year 13 at Craighead Diocesan School for Girls and is a very worthy winner. She will be going to France for a semester starting in January and hopes to perfect her command of French as well as to make good friends and enjoy life in a French family. We are delighted to be able to help Julia have such an exciting and life-changing adventure.
