Some things to think about ...
-
Each country has its own programme options and restrictions and these are described on the information sheets.
-
The northern hemisphere summer is during our winter so the two school years do not connect very well.
-
Our shortest programme is six weeks to France starting soon after NCEA finishes. This is a popular and successful exchange partly because students arrive with a reasonable knowledge of French. Short programmes in other countries are not always available and if available are not always attractive.
-
Returning students tell us that a minimum of three months on exchange is a good idea.
-
Students go at all stages of their school careers and many after they have completed Year 13. Every situation is different. We will suggest some things to think about if you ask us.
-
If you want to go when you turn 15, you can apply when you are 14.
-
Student exchange is a cultural adventure and you should not expect to be a tourist. You need to be prepared to bond with your host family and to make friends in your host school.
